Hello-
Well I finally made it to my new home in Washington, and it's pretty nice. It's a new house and for now I have my own room, which it great. I got here Friday afternoon and spent yesterday getting settled and driving around the tri-cities area. There is not a whole lot here but I think if you look hard enough there's plenty of stuff to do. Plus I think I officially start working tomorrow, which will give me plenty to do. Anyways, I'll try to pick up where I left off on my last update...
After the three days in the national parks, we spent the day driving from Utah to the CA coast. The drive was mostly boring, a lot of desert, but we saw the vegas strip and when we finally got through the desert we drove through a lot of beautiful farmland. We made it to Cambria, CA in time to check into our hostel, walk around a little bit, then see the sunset over the pacific ocean while enjoying a bottle of California wine...a pretty good end to the day. The next day we wound our way up Highway 1 - amazing views. Along the way we stopped to see Hearst Castle (from a distance), the elephant seals (so cute), the Monterey Aquarium, and Santa Cruz. We spent the night in Pescedero, CA, but didn't see too much of it because we got there in the dark and were up early the next morning to get mom to the San Francisco airport. After that, I was on my own again and I headed for downtown San Francisco. I spent the day wondering around San Fran feeling overwhelmed about being alone in CA. But San Fran is an interesting city, my favorite part of the day was walking around Chinatown. But after losing my cell phone and finding the hostel full, I decided to leave San Francisco and spend the night just north of the city at the Marin Headlands hostel, a good decision. To get there I had to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, which was fun. The next day I opted not to go back down into San Francisco and instead drove over to check out Berkley, CA then spent the afternoon exploring Napa Valley. You definitely need more than an afternoon to explore Napa Valley. I took a vineyard tour, and my tourguide was the first person I had met that had heard of Pasco, WA, which was very encouraging (apparently there are a lot good wineries in this part of WA). After Napa I drove back to the coast and spent the night at Point Reyes National Seashore. Driving there I was back on Hwy 1 and I got to watch the sunset as I drove along, the timing was perfect.
That's all I have time for right now. There will be an Update Part 3 coming shortly, but my computer has not been functioning so working on it always turns into a huge process. Anyways, I hope everyone is well. Also, I did recover my phone in San Francisco so feel free to call.

Lindsey, Hi. I was about your age when I traveled across Canada on the Canadian National and down the East Coast on my own without a car taking buses, meeting up with friends, meeting new people...... it is a wonderful adventure you are having. I loved staying in hostels (especially the one on Queen Victoria Island). I look forward to reading more about your adventures! Keep in touch, Love, Jeanne
