I'd been hearing forever how much "better" Macedonian pizza is than Canadian and you havvvvveee to try Macedonian pizza. So ok let's do this.... Finally. Order pizza.... Was actually the WORST pizza I've ever had in my life!!! Oh man it was soggy and gross Sinisa tried to cover it up saying I ordered "not something normal" acting like its my fault the pizza was horrible!!
! Ummm it's a freaking pizza place!!! They should be able to make anything I ask what's on their menu perfect!!! After a few bites of his he looks at me, sulky face and says his wasn't very good either I laughed and laughed and said well thanks for the worst dinner ever im glad I got to have it with you!!! We went downtown and walked around it was beautiful lots of people out walking around sitting chatting having coffee watching the fountains... We met up with his friends and continued walking around we went to the city park and walked through it then had a drink and went home! we needed to have an "early night" home before 1! We planned a big day for the next day!!!
We got up and went to check out places we want to travel to or WHERE we could travel to as booking something here in Macedonia is wayyyy different than doing it in Canada. First of all we are not in the season so that cuts any place you want to travel to from Macedonia by about 80percent. second everything else fills up! I just thought they didnt want to to help us as sinisa was explaining anything to me just vague responses to my what the hell questions until finally sitting in a travel place where Sinisa explained the situation! OHHH OK! We just happened to walk past this place and went in the guy was so nice and calling everywhere for us. We didnt want to book anything because lets face it we didnt have Sinisas passport in our hands and I didnt feel comfortable spending a lot of money and not having that valuable piece for travel. We checked out a few more places which were NOT helpful and then we decided screw it lets go to the passport place and see if they have it (he only applied for it less than 24 hours earlier) it is HOT HOT HOT out and we are stuck in traffic of course and there is NO A/C in his car and the sun is directly on me it was ridiculous over 35 above WITH humidity- haha at one point Sinisa goes look at your mustache!
! (pronounced by him moooooostachh) I just had to laugh then I was sweating so bad I was disgusting!! And SHUT UP about my mooostach by the way!!! We get to the building walk up a million stairs and wait around I finally found a chair and when Sinisa went up to ask about his passport I actually felt like I was going to throw up after all this stress! And it turns out luck was on our side!!! WE HAD HIS PASSPORT!!!!! Yayyyyyyyy!! The guy from the travel agency called to ask us to come back! PERFECT! Lets do it!!! It had really sounded like we weren't going to find anything so when we went back and he showed us this beautiful 5 star resort in Alanya Turkey I almost shrieked we got his passport AND we are going to Turkey! TAKE MY VISA!!!! We booked it jumped in the car and headed out of town to Sinisas old babas house in the country!
I wasn't so sure about Macedonia but after 4 days in the country and the villages I am in love! The country is amazing and very different. We started driving through mountains he explained different villages to me on our way out we stopped at his god fathers place in a little village just outside of Skopje we had to stop and buy them something first as you cannot simply just drop in on soemone you HAVE to buy them something. We got there and sat for a few moments with them in the back yard they had peppers hanging everywhere (everyone in Macedonia does this they make paprika out of them when they are dried!) and a ton of grapes! While they
were all chatting I of course found a puppy to amuse me. Back on the road!
We stopped a place called Prilep it was very beautiful but everything was closed!!!???!! ohhh of course its wednesday and everything closes early wednesdays and saturdays in Prelep?!!
! haha ok! Back in the car after a little bit of betting, Sinisa cant pass a place with out betting... or buying smokes! We drove to Bitola and walked around went to have dinner and his cousin came to meet us! We walked to another place and ate we had told his grandma we would be there by 10 and it was already after 8 and we had to go grocery shopping and buy flowers and the drive was still 45 minutes away. We went grocery shopping and bought her everything and anything! too bad we forgot its not like at home where you can take the shopping acrt to your car we had bought tons of stuff and had to walk so far also forgetting where the hell we parked!!!! We finally got to grandmas, she was waiting for us!
Old baba wears all black because her husband died 2 years ago and she will forever go on wearing black. I just assumed in my mind that she was in this little village made out of mud and sticks hahah now that I think about it its so ridiculous! She has a great house 4 rooms upstairs a kitchen living room and wreck room and bathroom downstairs! Old baba must have kissed me a thousand times hugged me like I was her last child kissed my face arms hands... it was so crazy for me I didn't know what was going on and shes so tiny I had to keep bending wayyyy down to hug her! We sat and talked with her for a couple of hours (meaning Sinisa talked with her while I smiled) and she complained that i didn't know Macedonian..
. a million times! ("shes so wonderful... except she doesn't know Macedonian") She then complained to Sinisa why didn't I have a ring, I said yeah... why is that!!! hahah. She then showed us our room upstairs a big room with a big bed while she was making it she told us that we needed to have 2 babies... ummm ok?? right now??? She also said us moving in together before getting married was stupid and we should just get married and I should move in with him and his family.. haha yeah.. ok baba thats going to happen! At one point while they were talking I could hear her voice cracking and I thouught uuuhhh ohhh she just got up talking to apparently no one and left the room.. ok?? Sinisa?? "yeah she just went to get something" she came back started sobbing the whole thing was so emotional she pulled out this envelope and counted a thousand euro on Sinisas lap sobbing i had no idea what was going on but it was so upsetting for me that I started crying! Only after was Sinisa able to tell me that his grandfather had given old Baba a thousand euro each for both his grandchildren to have and this is the first time since his passing that Sinisa had been here. It was really a wonderful/hard moment, poor Sinisa trying to hold it together while his little Baba is crying giving him the last of his grandfather. I feel so bad for his grandmother as she is alone both her sons moved one to Canada one to Australia she has her brother and sister but they are busy with their own lives so she is alone. Sinisas family owns apple fields and thats what his grandmother lives off of sinsias dads cousin looks after the fields for her now and also watches over her.
We went to bed and had the BEST sleep actually sleeping in a bed and in the quiet of the country it was amazing!!!
Well it took me 2 hours to write the last travel blogs!!! Sinisa slept for 3 as I slept till 1 while he went to get his card something like a drivers license and at the same time he lucked out by chatting someone up there and applied for his passport!!! Aghhhh yes!!!! We went to go to the circus but when we got there I chickened out! The tent wasn't what the 5 year old in me watching dumbo looked like I said no!!! I don't want to go!!!! Let's go for dinner instead! Ok??? Are you sure?? Sinisa says skeptically YES let's get out of here!!! Speed away like you robbed a place!!! Off we went in search of his favorite pizzeria!!
