From there we had a tuk-tuk to take us to Unawantuna, to an old museum, to antique and silk stores, to dinner at another Bawa Hotel.
A highlight was an evening ride down the coast to meet-up with two Brits who are hard-core travelers and entrepreneurs whom we first met in Kandy at Sweet Cinnamon
Since I have included some wedding photos at Tamarind, I should write a bit about the grandness of that ceremony in this country. Weddings are a HUGE deal, the life-savings of the parents kind of deal! Crazy. Having a large professional photo album must be a requirement as we observed photo shoots at the colonial hotels with a crew of three or more camera and lighting people. Often the wedding is not actually at the hotel but the photo sessions are set with these fancy backgrounds. The most elaborate of the weddings we saw was at the Galle Face Hotel in Columbo. Native dancers and drummers brought in the bride. Flowers everywhere, a dozen attendants and women guests in gorgeous, gorgeous saris.
