Larry and Derek put up the curtain rod and curtains and they look really nice.
They replaced light bulbs in the bedroom and living room, no small task due the10 foot high ceilings and the placement of the bed. Luckily Derek is tall enough that he could stand on the bed with the help of the leaf from the dining room table. Then Derek fixed Erin’s desk which she had put together herself. The drawer rails needed help and the door needed to be put on. They moved Erin’s computer to the desk and took the old table downstairs. This is a mahogany table that Larry refinished when we were first married. It is going to be sold. Sad.
While all of this was going on I prepared food for our time in the San Juan’s. Mostly I did cheese grating and chopping of veggies so I don’t have to do it there. We got done with all our chores and showers and packing at 2:30. Larry and Derek went for a walk and I stayed at the condo to give my feet a rest. When they got back we packed the car and even with Erin’s cooler and our collapsible cooler we fit everything and could still see out of the back. We picked Erin up shortly after 4:00 and headed north to Anacortes.
The traffic was really heavy even north of Everett but we got to Fidalgo Island, Anacortes, in plenty of time to stop at Deception Pass and walk the long bridge
. It was good to get out and stretch our legs after being in the car for two hours. We had all been there before but it is a beautiful place with great views. We got back into the car and drove to the ferry to Orcas Island. The Yakima ferry stopped at Shaw Island just across from Orcas. We could see the dock and our cottage from Shaw. We took the 7:20 ferry and got there about 8:30. Boardwalk on the Water was just to the left of the ferry when we drove off the boat.
The first think I did upon arrival was turn on the oven. We brought in all our stuff. The front deck of our cottage has an awesome view of the moon over the water with Shaw Island in the background. That is about the only thing awesome about this cottage. To say it is rustic is an understatement. Not only rustic but old and dirty. At least it is a step up from primitive tent camping. I put the shepherd’s pie in the oven and then started washing dishes for supper because nothing looked clean. The pictures of this place made it look nice but the reality is something else. We got settled and watched the ferry leave. Soon our dinner was ready. We were starved so we wolfed it down and did the dishes. We watched Pawn Stars for awhile and then went to bed about 11:00.
I got up and took Erin to work. On the way back to the condo I stopped at Fred Meyer to get a cheese grater as Erin didn't have one. When I got back Larry was up and Derek was soon up too. After breakfast I blogged. Today was our chore day at the condo. Larry and Derek put up a new toilet paper holder in the second bathroom and then went to Home Depot to get what they needed for the rest of the chores. It took them over an hour to get what they needed. While they were gone I ironed the new drapes for Erin’s bedroom which took me more than an hour too. They were lined and had a room darkening layer between the liner and the curtain. I thought I would never get done. Her iron which never gets used kept putting little spots on the cream-colored fabric. Luckily I was able to get them out fairly easily. I was finished before they got back.
