. Now that pier is just a great place for a magnificent view. It took us over two hours to go out the five miles because of all our stops. Coming back it took less than an hour with the wind at our backs and going mostly gently downhill.
We were all hot and sweaty when we got back. We had lunch and then Larry, Derek and Erin went swimming while I had a nap. When I woke up, they were at Happy Hour at the pool bar. I had to walk across the street to Safeway to get some aluminum foil to bake our chicken fetuccini from Costco. Larry, Derek and Erin returned from Happy Hour shortly after I got our supper in the oven.
After supper we watched the DVD that Derek made from our first trip to Hawaii in 2007. It was very well done. We saw and did a lot on that trip. Then we watched 2 episodes of Doc Martin a BBC TV show. Then it was time for bed.
I was the last one up today after 8:00. We left this morning about 9:45 to walk to Kauai Cycle to rent bikes which is only a couple of blocks away. It was only $10 to rent them for 4 hours. There is a five mile bike path north along the shore beginning right at the bike shop. Our bikes were touring bikes with 3 speeds but pedal breaks. Erin had one with hand breaks. We took our time going out. We stopped often for the views and to take pictures. There were several bridges over rivers going into the ocean. The whole way the breeze was in our face which was good because it is warmer today than any other since we have been here: 79* with 78% humidity. Larry and I got a life bird along the trail, a White-rumped Shama which is mostly black with a chestnut belling and a white rump patch. We saw a beautiful male, the female is more drab. We also saw Ruddy Turnstones at the last beach at the end of the trail. We stopped at one place that had been a Pineapple Dump. They used to dump the leavings from processing pineapple into the ocean by the train car load
