We had planned to get up at 8:00 but it was so noisy that we were up much earlier.  We got dressed and went to breakfast.  We were in the last group getting off the ship as our flight times were later in the day.  So Erin surfed the Internet and found Jungle Island as a place to spend our last day together.  It is a kind of zoo with exotic animals including lots of exotic birds.  Our group was finally called at 8:45 and we headed off the ship.  It went really smoothly and before we knew it we were in a taxi headed for Jungle Island which we could see from the ship but couldn't get to easily.  It took about 15 minutes to get there.  We arrive about 9:15 but it didn't open until 10:00.  So Erin sat in the sun and soaked up some rays while I sat in the shade and read my book.  When it finally opened we got our tickets and they took our picture holding parrots on the way in.

We had planned to see 3 shows: at the Serpentarium, the Jungle Theater and the Parrot Bowl.  We looked at all the macaws, cockatoos and other animals on the way to the Serpentarium where the show was put on by Dr. Wasabi who reminded me of a younger Jack Hanna.  We saw exotic animals including a porcupine from Africa and Lemurs from Madagascar, yes they did play the music from Madagascar the movie.  Then we looked at more animals on our way to the Jungle Theater wh ere there was a big cats show.  Only the big cats were baby cats and so cute.  By this time we were hungry so we went to the cafeteria and had pulled pork sandwiches with fries.  Then we made our way to the Parrot Bowl by way of the real big cats who were being fed at that time, lots of chicken.  The show in the Parrot Bowl was birds of course and my favorite.  They had birds doing all kinds of tricks.  They even had the only trained Cassowary in the world.  This is a very large, colorful, and flighless bird with huge legs and feet.  It is the closest surviving relative of the velociraptor of Jurassic Park fame.  We were hot and tired and decided to head to the airport.

There was a taxi waiting at the entrance and we were at the airport in no time.  When we got inside we discovered that we couldn't sit together while we waited because our gates were in different parts of the terminal.  So we said good bye and headed through security.  It sure was nice not to have to deal with luggage.  I stopped after security to go into the restroom and change from my shorts to long pants.  Then I bought a sandwich for later.  At the gate I sat by a woman from Louisville, KY and we talked until the flight was called.  We left early!  We got to Charlotte early and I was glad because I only had a 33 minute turn around time.  But when I got there I needn't have worried, my flight was delayed over an hour.  I found my gate which was only a few gates away and took a seat.  I got out my sandwich and began eating when I noticed the young man across from me.  He sure looked like a former student.  I watched him while I ate and decided from his mannerisms that it was George.  I said hello, we hugged, and then talked until the plane took off.  I only got in an hour late.  It was good to be home and I will be for a while.
