We got up at 7:15, got dressed, ate, packed the car and were off to the airport at 8:20.  We went to Terminal 1 this time and parked in Short Term parking.  It wasn't long until we were meeting Derek in Baggage Claim.  The first thing Derek did was change out of his jeans and sweatshirt into shorts and a t-shirt.  We got in the car and headed north to the World Famous Gold and Silver Pawnshop of "Pawn Stars" fame.  When we got there, they were filming and wouldn't be open for an hour.  So we went to the Stratosphere which is just a few blocks away.  We got tickets to go to the top.  Erin and Derek got tickets for two rides and Larry and I got tickets for one.  We took the elevator to the top and looked out at the inside observation deck where we could watch the people suiting up and jumping off the Stratosphere.  Very scary!  Then we went up the stairs to the outside observation deck and took pictures.  Derek and Erin decided that they wanted to ride Insanity.  Larry and I watched and I took video and pictures of them.  Then we rode the elevator up to the Big Shot where all four of us got on.  This ride shot us up to the very top of the stratosphere and dropped us just as fast and then we bounced until we came  all the way back down,  WOW!  It was really fun.  Then we went back to the bottom of the tower and drove back to the pawnshop.  this time it was open and there was no line to get in.  It looks much better on TV than it does in real person.  About half the shop is souvenirs for people to buy because of the TV show.

When we were done looking around, we got in the car and started heading east and then south out of town.  We stopped at In-N-Out Burger which Erin had been hyping up to us for a couple of years.  They were really good burgers and fries.  Then we got back on the road and headed south through Boulder City, across the new bridge over the Colorado River at Hoover Dam and into Arizona.  We passed through the Lake Mead National Recreation Area again.  We stopped at a scenic view where we could see the river in the distance.  When we got to Kingman we got on old US Route 66.  It is a very scenic drive with changing landscapes the whole way.  We also were right beside the BNSF (Burlington Northern and Sante Fe) Railroad most of the way and saw lots of trains.  The landscape was very flat and barren in places.  For a long stretch we went by the Music Mountains.  The next chain of mountains looked like huge rock piles.  There were stretches where there were lots of large bushes.

We stopped in the town of Seligman which is where 66 joins back up with Interstate 40.  We stopped right outside the same place Larry and I had stopped in 2000.  We went into the souvenir shop where Derek got a Route 66 sign and magnet and Erin got a Route 66 pint glass.  While we were in the shop a group of bikers pulled up outside.  We had passed them earlier on the road.  Lots of bikers like to ride this part of Route 66.  When we left we got back on Interstate 40 and didn't stop until we got to Williams.  We stopped at the Safeway to get groceries for the week which took a while.  Then we drove 1/2 hour north on 64 until we got to Mile Marker 209.9 where the driveway to our house is.  We missed it and had to turn around and go back.  When we arrived about 6:30, we found that we are truly in the middle of nowhere with horses and cattle roaming around us.  We put the groceries away and started supper, taco salad.  This place is awesome.  It is a large house with three bedrooms and two baths.  It has a front porch facing east and a back porch facing west.  We watched the sunset as we ate our supper and shortly after we watched the full moon rise.  We spent the evening settling in, reading and blogging.
