Where I stayed
We had already decided that we would split up today: boys and girls. Erin and I got up about 8:30 and headed for the Neue Pinakothek (new art museum). We stopped in the bakery at the S-bahn to get an apfelstreudel for breakfast. We took the S-bahn to Karlsplatz and then got on a tram that took us to within a block of the art museum. We did the Neue Pinakotek first because both of us love the Impressionists and we wanted to be sure to see them. We bought a combined ticket at a discounted price that included the Alte Pinakotek (1400-1700, the old art museum). The highlights for me were Monet, Manet, van Gogh, Gauguin and sculptures by Rodin. There was also a terracotta sculpture of Renoir by Malloit. They had the Sunflowers by van Gogh, one of my favorites of his work. I bought a magnet of it and of Water Lilies by Manet.
Erin and I went across the street to the Alte Pinakotek for lunch
Larry and Derek wanted to go see the Festival Field for Octoberfest. So we got on the S-bahn and rode out there. Larry and Derek walked all the way around. Erin and I went to check out nearby St. Paul’s Church but it closed at 5:00. So we waited to Larry and Derek and then headed back to the center of town. We decided to go back to the hotel and drop things off. It was too early to go to supper so we went to the Augustiner for a drink before supper
We went back to the hotel and Larry and Derek brought their luggage down to our room. While I packed for Larry and myself, Larry, Derek and Erin worked on getting all photos off of camera chips and onto all three computers, mine, Derek’s and Erin’s so that we all have all the photos. We got everything in. Larry and I switched bags because his was smaller and I wanted to take as little as possible with me for my two days in England.
