We have had a jam-packed couple of days being oriented to our big trip - about 10 lectures in a conference room at the Gleacher Center at the University of Chicago. My favorite: Richard Lacy teaching us Hindi - he said we'd learn something and we did! The Omni on Michigan Avenue is beyond belief - the most elegant place I've ever stayed, including chocolate covered strawberries on the first night!

I just noticed that I wrote "we." Within hours of meeting the other participants, we became "we." Maybe Kevin's plan for us to attend a Cubs game Monday night helped. What a riot - Wrigley field is awesome and Cubs fan are insane, but in a good and friendly way, and even though they oversell the bleacher seats by more than 1,000 and we had to stand for a several innings, it was a great way to get our summer together started. Sarah asked an usher what we would do in case of fire, and he calmly replied, "Since you're standing, you'll be the first to get out." Hahaha.

This morning we had free time and Mary and I walked along Lake Michigan. The city is clear, colorful with summer flowers, clean and friendly. I want to come back!

enjoy the flight...
it is great fun to read your blog...

I will go to chicago with you over a weekend upon your return....one of my favorite cities!

India will be VERY interesting.. Having been there almost thirty years ago..I recall so much and want to forget a bit as well.Enjoy the Taj Mahal and make sure that you take the elephant ride!

DC is very hot..we have two sets of guests in and it turns out that we are getting ready to go off to Wolftrap to see Carmen with Denyce Graves in the humid 90 degree weather with our picnic! HOW DC is that??

However, Wolftrap is one of may favorite DC spots in the summer~

Glad that you enjoyed the Omni ..cause I only guess that your digs in India will not be quite as sumptuous! Just remember there is always a bathroom at at Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott or a Kampinski in New Delhi!

Looking forward to more of your entries!
I cannot wait to see the NAMESAKE as it is the next NetFLIX on my list..
