Lisse, Netherlands - 04-19-08
Entry 9 of 9 | show all | print this entry |
The highlight of today was the visit to the Keukenhof Gardens in Lisse. These gardens are open just eight weeks of the year. 7 million bulbs have been planted for the spring and, needless to say, the gardens were out of this world!
We drove past some of the tulip fields on our way to the gardens; also past the farms of the tulip fields. There are very green pastures, with much water, of course, canals, dykes, etc. Because of this, there are many birds nesting, swans, geese, etc.
We opted not to go to Amsterdam upon our return as I have been nursing a cold. So, again, we chilled in our room.
Tonight our friends from England asked us to join them for dinner and we also invited our friends from Hawaii. Of course, we have exchanged e-mail addresses and will be corresponding with our new friends in the future. Much free-flowing wine was enjoyed by all. The men were off to the Red Light District - the women were invited but we decided to adjourn to our room as we have an early wake up call for our train departure to Brugge. We are really looking forward to the beauty of Brugge.

BFF, I am surprised you did check out the District. One should always be on the lookout for post-retirement opportunities.
I have been waiting for days for word on the tulips. Can't wait to see pictures.
