the wonderful sounds of broken speakers

Sukhothai was the first Thai capital in southeast Asia, and the religious structures are surprisingly well-preserved and tourist-free. More importantly, in contrast of what the silly Lonely Planet says, the new part of the small town is a pleasant place to spend some time. I was lucky enough to be there for some sort of school performance or the like in a park by the river, with dancing, song and music. The loudspeakers were taxed above their limit, and it sounded like the diaphragm of the woofers where shaking in the boxes and on top of that, everything had a great - if unintended - echo. It was beautiful. And the kids had some great performances.
