So you may be asking yourself, hmm, what's Lily doing at Octoberfest in
the middle of September. At first I was confused as well. But
apparently these festivities, first held in 1810 to celebrate the
wedding of Princess Therese and Prince Ludwig, were moved forward into
September in 1872 to allow for better weather conditions. Germany's six
big breweries were on site in beer tents. Incredibly over 30% of their
total annual production is consumed during these two weeks of the
Some interesting facts about Oktoberfest. There are 15 tents serving beer, roasted chicken, and sausages. The biggest tent houses about 100,000 people at one time. There´s singing, rallying, and conversing in these tents. Reservations for these tents are taken a year in advance. Others will line up like going into a club with bouncers securing all doors. Over 6 million people come to visit in this 2 week period and over 10 million liters of beer will be ingested at that ime. 30% of the total brewerzs´ annual production.
It has been quite interesting observing drunk people day and night. In the city, people stagger everywhere. There are broken glass from the heavy beer mugs and other more disgusting stuff. I have spent 4 days here. German livers must regerate faster than other peopleoe. Or else they must be rotating on and off calls q12 or q24hrs. They seem to keep going. The foreigners however are ghastly zombies in the mornings lining up for coffee. I found out interestingly enough, Germans are only world´s third heavy drinkers. Winner is Czech Republic. Maybe thatoe why they were so grumpy. Why would they want to work when work is probably hindering them from a nice cold beer? German people have been nicer, at least more jovial. Could be all that alcohol yet again.
