Went to the Wieliczka salt mines. Had amazing sculptures made of salt that the miners did in their free time. There were kilometers of caverns and salt stalactites. They even dug a great hall. Mass is held every morning in the deepest underground chuurch. They even have a post office now, the deepest in the world. Interesting note was that these miners did not suffer from diseases like other miners because apparently little impurities. Even better for their skin. Also took a tour around Nova Huta, an industrial planned city for Stalin's steel-making. Many city planners from US also come to view this city. I can imagine Irvine's community planning/builders coming. It was a self-sufficient community with one sports arena, cinema. Just no churches, despite devout people. Stalin wouldn't allow it. But the townspeople wanted it so they started brining stones from their yard. It became a pilgrimage site for people to bring their unwanted stones there. It was shaped like an ark from the outside. Also one of the more unique churches I have seen with beautiful sculputrues and designs.
