It's our first day of our camel safari. We have two camels to ride and one with a cart, three camel owners and one guide who speaks english. Toni and Kenny Lee started out on the camels and I road in the cart because they were both so excited about riding the camels. Later, Kenny Lee got tired and so we switched. Riding on these camels are different from the other camel we road. The saddles are different, not as comfortable. They have these wood brackets in the front section so you can only have one rider at a time, and the brackets can rub on your legs if you don't have the padding set just right. But, riding on a camel is fun and the view from up that high is great.
The guide and camel owners made us lunch of chipatis and a cabbage, potato and califlower stir fry that had lots of spices in it. Toni and Kenny Lee thought is was a little hot, but I liked it a lot. The chipati is like a fry bread and they make a little fire to cook them. They make the dough and everything right there. They just use flour water, and salt. We have eaten a lot of chipatis in India.
We learned that there are three types of camels in India, Jaisalmer camels that are lighter in color and taller. They also have a little bit different look to therir faces. Bikaner camels are very dark, almost black and they seem smaller and have really big eyelashes and fur on their eye lids. Gujarat camels area about the same size as bikaner camels, but they tend to be more reddish in color and their fur is really curly, kinky fur. For dinner they made us more chipati, basmati rice and dal (lentils). We slept on thin mattresses with thick warm blankets out in the open. We were still too close to the city so the lights fromt he city and the full moon made it hard to see the stars. They were a little washed out. But still, it was fun to be out in the open desert.
We saw lots of wild antelope in the desrt and a white fox that looked more gray than white. This internet connection is slow, so I won't upload images here either. I also have people waiting for me to finish here so I'll wait until I get back to Udaipur before I upload images.
