On the Road to Jodhpur

Along the way to Jodhpur we stopped at a brick making facility. It is actually a family of brick makers that made the bricks by hand and laid them out to dry, then baked them. I'd seen a number of these from the bus to Udaipur so it was nice to be able to stop and see how they did everything.
We saw herds of camels and oxen along the way. I beieve they are all owed by someone, but they were wandering free along the road or in the fields. We stopped at Ranakpur Temple which is a Jain temple made all of white marble. It was unbelieveably beautiful. Very massive and impressive carving work everywhere. I was having probelms with camera batteries so I couldn't take as many pictures as I had wanted. I've discovered that you have to be careful about the type of batteries you purchase here. Many of them are not good enough to run my camera.
We saw black-faced monkeys and red-faced monkeys up close and personal. The black-faced monkeys had lots of babies. On our way to a restaurant we saw a man with his camel and our driver knew this man. So we got to take a camel ride to the restaurant. It was really fun, they are much mre comforatble to ride than an elephant. However, I did get caught in an accacia tree and was almost pulled off the camel. We had to back up the camel so I could untangle myself. The restaurant that we ate at, called Chandra Hill Resorts and restaurant had really great food. All the vegatables were straight from their garden. I would highly recommend it. The drive across this country is very pleasant, peaceful and beautiful country. It is a little dry like Eastern Washington, a little dry with green patches where they irrigate for planting.
We reached Jodhpur at night and stayed in the Haveli guest house. A haveli is like a very old home and ornately carved in marble. Jodhpur is called the blue city because they paint their buildings blue. At night though, you can't really see the blue. The fort in Jodhpur is fantastic! It is so impressive. I keep saying that alot, but really you have to believe me, these forts are huge, massive things built high on the mountain tops. From atop the guest house we have a spectacular view of the fort.
