I'm surprised that so many places are closed on Sunday and Monday here. Anyway, we had these huge stuffed jacks for breakfast this morning at De Tatch restaurant. Jacks are these fry breads that are really tasty and these were stuffed with eggs, bacon, ham, potatoes, peppers, and onions. Boy were they good but, I couldn't eat it all.
After breakfast we headed down toward the north end of the peninsula just to see what it looked like. The peninsula is 16 miles long and the village where we are staying is on the southern end. So we wanted to see some of the rest of the peninsula. We walked down the beach about 2 1/2 miles and decided that the southern tip really had the best beaches. There were some pretty nice resorts along the section of beach that we did walk. We saw this one really fancy and beautiful resort called the Turtle Inn. The cabins looked really luxurious but, blended in nicely with the environment. It didn't look like one of the monster hotels you see in Hawaii. Each cabin had a nice little garden and these was more than one swimming pool. The guide book says this is one of the resorts owned by Francis Ford Coppola, which explains it all to me. We we got back, I walked down to the Tutti Fruitti Italian ice cream parlor and had a Kiwi sorbet ice cream cone. Boy was that good! It looked like all the ice creams were homemade right there. We spent most of the rest of the day laying out on the beach soaking up the rays. It turned out to be a beautiful day. We both got a lot of sun. Dave went swimming in the ocean a few times. Later, when we decided we needed to get out of the sun we got cleaned up and I got caught up on my entries while Dave tried to make reservations at what we hoped would be our next location, Mama Snoots at Mayflower Bocawina Park not far from Dangriga. However, they only had one place available there and it was pretty expensive. So we have changed our plans. We've decided to head to Punta Gorda further south and about the last town in Belize. This is supposed to be the only area in Belize with a true rain forest tropical jungle. Since Ian Anderson's was such a thick jungle we are wondering what Punta Gorda looks like. We didn't think we would have time to go that far north but, we've decided to skip the Mayflower park and experience Punta Gorda for ourselves.
