So, here I am at my old house in Kirkland where my brother-in-law, Doug, continues to live (kind of) even though we sold the house. We are staying the night because we needed a place to leave our car and Doug offered to drive us to the airport in the morning. so That was great of him to offer to do that for us.
However, we didn't find out until yesterday that Doug hasn't actually lived in the house for about a year. He just pays half the rent and stores his stuff there. His "roommate," which we have never met, is really the only one living in the house. So we feel a little like we are intruding on his roommate. He has been very gracious and even put towels out for us in case we want to take a shower in the morning. But, that sure wasn't happening for me since I also found out yesterday that they didn't have any heat in the house. I guess since Doug doesn't live there, he didn't want to pay to have the oil tank filled and since his roommate, also Dave, only lives in the basement he didn't want to pay to have the upstairs heated. So, he uses a space heater in his room and the rest of the house is like an iceberg.
Both Dave and I are sitting bundled up in our sleeping bags, upstairs in the porch room because it's the only room with a tiny electric space heater in the wall. We are trying to stay warm, but it's going to take me quite a while to get warmed up. Dave was all excited when heard that they had gotten cable TV installed at the house because we didn't have it when we owned the house. So he figures we'd watch TV that night. Unfortunately, roommate Dave had the cab;e box removed from Doug's room because he was never there. So, there was no TV. Instead, I am writing in my journal and Dave is reading a book.
I am so cold that I cannot make myself take my clothes off to get into pajamas. So, I'm sleeping in all my warmest clothes. At least it won't take me long to get ready in the morning! I've got my sleeping bag drawn all around my head so that only a small part of my face is visible. Got to keep that heat in.
We did get to eat at our favorite Indian restaurant, Shamiana's, tonight.

I actually did warm up while I sleeping and actually had to open up my sleeping bag at some point in the night to let in a little of the cold air. So, it wasn't that bad a night. It kind of reminded me of a backpacking trip.
