My friend, Rachel, moved in with my family today and we'll be sharing a room for the next month. How exciiiting! Friday, I'll be leaving for Saint Louis yet again to research the Catholic schools in northern Senegal. I'll be staying with my Senegalese uncle, Dimbo, and my friend, Sam, who is doing her entire project in Saint Louis. I'm planning on spending a good amount of time doing research but an equal amount at the beach. I definitely need a break after the past week! I'll check in once I'm settled in Saint Louis.
I've been back from the village now for a week, and all that we've been doing in Dakar is preparing for our Independent Study Project (ISP) period that starts TODAY! This past week has flown by so fast because of all the work I've had to do that I can't even remember what I've done. I found an advisor for my ISP (it was almost TOO easy... what luck!) who I met with today. His name is Mamadou Diallo and he's a professor of law at the University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar. He's very knowledgable about the education system in Senegal and seemed very eager to help me in my research. All of the SIT students had oral language testing in both Wolof and French this past weekend. I tested into the Advanced level of French and into Intermediate-low in Wolof. It's crazy how much Wolof I've learned in such a short amount of time! I've finished my ISP proposal and outline; now I can start the fun stuff!
