My short stay en el Distrito Federal is coming to a close. I have become a pro using the metro and I suprisingly enjoy this city. Today we visited various bookstores and wandered around the centro, which is owned by Carlos Slim, 4th richest man in the world, you can imagine the amount of people he had to step on to reach that post. The zocalo was filled with flowers left by those mourning the pope, and if theyre not talking about him theyre talking about the coup that happened last friday in the city government. We have been staying at a friends apartment, meeting with good people involved in human rights work, taking in a bit of the city. We are now ready to return to Oaxaca. For those of you wondering if I will ever escape Oaxaca, plans have been made to travel with the fam in May in Guatemala. I will return to Colorado in June.
Read in the newspaper today about the Minuteman project down in Arizona, they are ready to hunt illegal immigrants, and this makes me all the more nervous thinking about the band of 16 mixtecos who are attempting/have crossed the border, who knows where and who knows how but I hope they are ok. No human being is illegal.
