Where I stayed

What a great visit to Vienna. As expected it was very cold but the crowds, food and warm shops all made it a great experience. Our visit to the Hofburg Palace (built 13th century) was amazing. Spent a good 3 hours looking around at the amazing building and former palace of Austrian Royalty. Vienna is a real culture centre. Art galleries abound and many many classical music concerts are operating everywhere. One gets the feeling that this cultural hub would have had the same vibe as it did back 300 years ago in Mozart's day.

Personal highlight was the Apple Strudel we shared. Served with traditional vanilla cream, it was, we decided, the greatest strudel ever eaten by anyone. Magnificent! The food has been ok although the European panache for cold meats and bread at breakfast is hard to digest: especially when it is 0 degrees outside?

The Austrians are possibly the tallest 'white' race of people on earth. Feel like a midget standing amongst them, in particular the women.
