Nha Trang...Great Days/Horrible Nights
Entry 5 of 7 | show all | print this entry |
Okay so I just wrote about the nice calm few days in Hoi An. Now Nha Trang was a completely different story. Me, and my friends Gav, Rich, and Ian got to Nha Trang and did some exploring and chilled for a bit before deciding to go out for the night. We went down to a place called the Sailing Club which was down on the beach. It was a pretty cool bar and had buckets of vodka redbull for about $1.50. So we stayed there for the night until a few of us decided to leave. As we crossed the road a bunch of hookers with motorbike helmets started to grab our "junk" and try to rob us. We had heard a little about working girls trying to rob people but didn't expect this. Me and my friends made it through the maylay alright. My friend Gav left a little later though and ended up getting robbed by a pregnant hooker. He didn't have much stolen, but it was by a pregnant hooker remember so it kinda stings a little more.
The next day was Rich's birthday so we chartered our own fishing boat and went fishing and scuba diving for the entire day which was amazing. It was such a great time after such a bad night. So we decided to start the night out at a place away from the beach. We had a few drinks and for some reason decided to go back to the sailing club. We had another good night there, and decided to leave later in the night than our friend Rich. When he left he decided to get a motorbike taxi to avoid the pregnant hookers. On his way his bike slowed down and he was surrounded on both sides by hookers on bikes, who then tried to grab his junk and tried to put his hands on their boobs so they could rob him. He yelled at his driver and finally got away. We were nearly assaulted when we left but yelled at them, and made sure they understood we didn't want to be messed with. We made it through that night and decided to relax the next day and night.
Day 4 started with renting of motorbikes in which we had a guided tour that took us up a mountain to see some of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen. Then into a fishing village where we saw some of the real Vietnam. Then we went to a waterfall that we had to do quite a trek to get to. At the waterfall we did some jumping off the surrounding cliffs into the water, went swimming into the waterfall and basically had a great time. We finished our ride visiting some temples and pagodas. It was a brilliant day, and that night when we got back we had some beers, dinner and just hung out. We met up with some girls we met before and ended up going to a few bars before guess where...The Sailing Club. Again we had a good night at the club, but this night probably ended the worst. Ian left early unscathed, then when me and Rich decided to leave we came upon a girl we kind of knew crying and being surrounded by guys. We got her out of there and tried to help her find her hotel. The guys followed us however and started pushing us and eventually hitting us. She for some reason got on one of the guys bikes which we told her was the last thing she should do. As it sped off me and Rich chased it and got it stopped and her off of it. She got away and I went to go get our last remaining friend Gav from the bar. When I went in, the guys attacked Rich with sticks and kicked him while he was on the ground. One of the guys eventually took him home on his bike, but he had to buy his broken camera back from a hooker. Now when I came out I thought Rich might be down the street and crossed to go find him. This is when I was attacked. They surrounded me and I started fighting back. One guy jumped off his bike to help them, so I jumped on it and took off. I turned around to go and get my friend Gav and crashed the bike. The guys kicked me while I was down, but I got up hit a few of them then got to safety. I didn't really have much damage aside from some cuts and a sore foot. So needless to say we took the next day easy and then got out of Nha Trang.
So I just got to Dalat today. Its up in the mountains and was an amazing drive to get here. We basically drove into the clouds. Im hoping we go back the same way so I can get some pictures. Its much more relaxed here and Im feeling a lot more comfortable. So that was by far the craziest time I've had so far. Like the title said the days were great but nights not so much. Mom and Dad if you're reading this, don't worry I'm fine and I've learned enough from Nha Trang to not venture out to the wrong places at night and to be generally more careful. I'll write another blog and try to add pics soon once Im settled here for a bit.

The night time encounters you described were unfortunate yet uncommon. Next time try the Nha Trang Lodge-it is a bit smaller than the SC but much safer.
