My news about living in Chelsea generated a popular question - what on earth am I doing in Chelsea? I'll clarify that - someone asked. I'm working as a live in carer/companion. I live with someone who needs a companion around to help them live independently, from house work to personal care (e.g. washing).

I do lots of things but due to confidentially I won't tell any anecdotes. These are all stored in my head. The secrecy reminds me of working for the police. The less I say, the more intriguing it becomes. Inferences drawn by friends were from undercover intelligence work to top secret computer stuff. My job was never that dramatic! And, right now, I help someone with their life. That's it!

What I can tell you is that the money is sort of good and sort of not good. On the one hand all my accommodation and food is paid for and I live in so no commuting costs. Therefore my day to day expenses are low and as I work 7 days a week, almost everything goes into savings for another day. On the other hand, I work 22 hours every day usually getting 8 hours to sleep but not always. On this basis, I earn 3.40 an hour.
I can also tell you that having a dressing gown and slippers is essential, being able to cope in a hot household is a prerequisite and a sainsbury's carrier bag can be modified to an unattractive orange shower cap.

hi Alex, have i missed something? Where is Laura and how come you are in Chelsea doing this job? Confused. Cx

For those of you who've asked what on earth I'm up to whilst Alex is working in London - I’ve been in Somerset plaguing my parents, whilst looking for some gainful employment for these chilly winter months. Working our socks off for our future plans..... :-)
