I somehow managed to have Bermuda added to my travel schedule, so here I am...on business. The island is quite interesting. It is an island of just 21 sqkm, quite literally in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Many Americans assume it is closer to the Caribbean islands, but it is closer to Canada than Miami.

It is one of the most stunning landings I've seen, and the drive from the airport to the city is equally breathtaking. The water is amazingly clear. You can look into the water and see straight down in many places.

We had a pretty packed meeting schedule, so the most I saw of the island was my hotel, the drive to our meetings and dinners and the drive back to the airport. Here, too, if you happen to be visiting and need a driver (who is a tour guide as well), send me a message and I can refer you to a lovely 8th generation Bermudian who is proud of his heritage and his country.

Bermuda is extremely expensive, so if you are looking to travel on a budget, I would recommend heading to the Caribbean for your beach holiday. Don't get me wrong, Bermuda is beautiful, but if you are looking for a beach getaway on a moderate budget you can get more for your buck elsewhere. On this note, the currency is the Bermudian dollar, but the US dollar is widely accepted.

I stayed at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, the oldest hotel on the island est. 1885. For business it was perfect as it is centrally located in Hamilton. We were able to get to all of our meetings in 5-15 minutes max. If you're heading here for business, I would stay here in Hamilton, but if you are here on holiday, their sister property, Fairmont Southampton is located on Bermuda's famous pink sandy beaches and is said to be one of the nicest properties on the island. There is a ferry that goes between the two, so if you have time you can experience the best of both. The Hamilton has a lovely harborside restaurant which offers a fantastic view of the sunset.

Some restaurants:
Blu Restaurant: Highly recommended. Had dinner here one night. The food was delicious, I had the seafood risotto (of course). It sits on the opposite side of the harbour and the view is amazing. I recommend going a bit early for a pre dinner drink so you can see it in the light, enjoy the sunset and then watch the moonlight transform the harbour.
Ascot's--highly recommend. It too, is one of the more famous dining establishments on the island. The staff is delightful and the food delicious.
