On the way into Utah we saw a sign for Golden Spike NHS and decided to stop.  There was not much to see on the drive leading up to Golden Spike.  The landscape was hilly, maybe mountainous, and dry.  We did drive past a rocket facility that looked interesting.

Golden Spike NHS turned out to be pretty interesting.  There were four (4) special spikes used in the ceremony linking the two railroads, all private owners.  There are also two exact replicas of the two steam locomotives used at the ceremony.  One of the locomotives performed a steam demonstration by steaming-up and went past us on the way to the barn.  A silly person crossed the tracks after the Ranger told him not to and was scolded by the Ranger.

All in all, a good stop.
