Day 40 - Leaving Antelope Island State Park, Salt Lake City, UT - July 30, 3008 - Wednesday
The wind had disappeared when we woke. It was a quiet morning. We drove out of the park and stopped at the first Starbucks for coffee. We sat thee a while looking at pictures and journaling. Dylan, thanks again for the Starbucks cards.
We headed to the Convention Center and Visitors Center in Salt Lake City, UT. The convention center was busy with a huge scrapbooking conference. Wow, that's a lot of people scrapbooking. Got some info from the visitor center, then headed to the KOA to check-in. We had lunch and went for a swim in the pool, did a load of laundry and stayed at the campsite the rest of the day.
The second chair broke. Guess we will definitely need to get more chairs now. So far we have broken both chairs and the french-press. Goodness.
Day 41 - Salt Lake City, UT - July 31, 2008 - Thursday
Rode the free shuttle to Temple Square in downtown SLC. Started with a tour of the square from Mormon sisters. It was very informative. Learned the Utah state bird is the seagull because once the pioneers arrived in Utah and grew crops, crickets were eating the crops. The pioneers prayed and God sent a flock of seagulls to eat all the crickets and save the crops. Utah is also the Beehive State which is a symbol used in the Beehive House, Brigham Young's house - which we toured as well. The beehive is a symbol for industry. Then we heard an organ recital in the Tabernacle. Very nice. Did not realize the Mormons had so much influence in Utah but they were the first non-native American settlers.
We had lunch at Red Cock then walked to an outdoor mall. Stopped for a movie, Wall-E, it was very good.
After the movie we walked to the Gallivan Center for the Twilight Concert Series. We had sausage dogs for dinner and listened to Yonder Mountain String Band. They were good - but we couldn't see them. Instead we sat people watching. We headed back on the last free shuttle to the KOA. A busy day.
Day 42 - Head to Aunt Debbie's - August 1, 2008 - Friday
Packed up. I went to water aerobics at the KOA pool. I couldn't stay the whole time but it felt good to stretch in the pool.
Then we headed to the Subaru dealer for an oil change and vehicle maintenance. We left with 4 new tires because the rear two tires had bald on the outside edge due to an alignment issue and weight of all our stuff.
After the maintenance we drove to Aunt Debbie's but actually stayed at Sarah's house (Michael's cousin). We went out to dinner with Aunt Debbie and Uncle Bob then did laundry, not much.
