Day 19 - Leaving Seattle, WA and Arriving at North Cascades National Park Complex - July 9, 2008 - Wednesday
Headed out about 10am after packing the car and stopping at the post office to mail mom's birthday present.
Drove until lunch and stopped at North Cascades National Park Complex. Went to the visitor center and decided to camp for a couple of days. Found a nice campsite and went to the Ranger presentation at 9pm about the wild flowers of the park. Very nice presentation.
Day 20 - North Cascades NP - July 10, 2008 - Thursday
Got up, had bacon and eggs for breakfast. After cleaning up bacon grease we headed out for a hike. We hiked to 4th of July Pass, a 9 mile roundtrip hike. Longest hike we've done so far. On the hike we saw several wild flowers that we learned about in the Ranger presentation last night. We also saw several small waterfalls/cascades.
At the top we were able to look over at some mountains and we were able to see a glacier. Pretty sure it was a glacier. I did not bring my binoculars, I knew I would get tired of carrying them way before 9 miles were up.
Day 21 - Leaving North Cascades N, Driving Thru Washington, Idaho, and Arriving in Kalispell, MT - July 11, 2008 - Friday
Today we drove all day. We got up early - had everything packed up and on the road by 7:30am. We stopped at Washington Overlook on the way out for some more pictures. Had a breakfast of instant oatmeal and coffee while standing at the back of the car. Then went for a short walk around the overlook. Fabulous views of mountains and valleys.
Drove all day. I even drove some today - first time - about two hours.
The highlight of the day was driving through northern Idaho and seeing 2 bald eagles. Wow!
Oh yeah, then in Montana we saw 2 horses running down the road in the other lane. Weird.
We stopped at the Hampton Inn about 9pm in Kalispell, just 30 minutes from Glacier NP.
