At Dunnet Head we saw puffins, which always causes a bit of excitement!
It was a lovely day, visiting little fishing villages like Lybster ( you have got to love that name) and ruined castles at Noss Head, and the heritage centre at Wick where we learned all about herring fishing.
At Lybster, we were given some absolutely fresh mackerel by a fisherman, and Alan cooked them in a Thai style sauce for dinner.
We also dropped in at the Queen Mother's place at Mey. She wasn't there of course but her castle is open to the public until next week, when her grandson Charles is expected to stay for a few days
Did I mention we went to the Sutherland County Show at Dornoch? I liked the sheep and cattle the best, although the terrier races were pretty amusing.
Today we all did what we wanted. Trish and I played golf at the Dornoch links course, Alan hired a bike and went for a 30 km ride through the countryside and Ray took a trip on the bus to Inverness to do some family history research before our trip on the weekend to the old family home at Durness.
