Day Forty Five

Left Panama City this morning in a light breeze and sunny skies. Ended up going up another beautiful creek, although not as pretty as yesterday's. Nevertheless, it's something to sit there at the helm with the creek scenery going by, a beautiful sky and ponder life...We encountered almost no traffic along the creek until we came upon a barge. I got a chance to learn how to run the side of the channel from Tom and we successfully passed the barge. Later as we came into the bay, we found a floating ice chest and Tom worked with me on maneuvering the boat...very helpful. At this point I would only have taken all boats out of one pier...have to work on that backing maneuver. Beverly stayed below all day to stay off her leg. She has figured out that if she does not bend it, treats it like a pegleg as Tom told her, she does much better.
We got to Sandesting about 1 in the afternoon and then found the marina had a golf cart for rent. Beverly, not one to be left behind, figured out a way to get off the boat and off we went. We met the marina parrot, whose name is, incredibly, Taylor...he is 18 years old and Tom and Bev remembered him from when they were here in '01. Bev and Tom were actually at this marina in their own trawler during 9/11...this brings back many memories for them. I was here in March of last year with Pinnacle and actually revisited some sights we saw while here. We toured town and I found a great manicure/pedicure place where Bev and I have an appointment tomorrow. We also went to Publix where we bought Bev a knee brace which she said is really helping. As part of our tour we stopped off at the beach and found a bar where we enjoyed happy hour margaritas and met an interesting couple, Don and Catherine, who wanted to know all about our trip. He is a sailor who is currently boatless and he has done a trip similar to this in the past.
Tonight's excitement will consist of laundry, walking the docks and early to bed...clean living... Tomorrow we have another full day here and plan on going to the beach to swim in the morning, then Bev and I will get our nails done and we have a lead on a good restaurant for dinner. More later...
