Dalat, and the long wait to get there
Entry 11 of 23 | show all | print this entry |
As i am writing this i am waiting watching the minutes pass by for my 11pm overnight bus to dalat. Im sure my friends are appreciative for they now all have lenghty returned emails but i am slowly going out of my mind having already spent a couple hours people watching, eating, drinking and playing cards at the bar Allez Boo, i have now spent an equal amount of time at this computer with 2 hours still to go its going to be a long boring night.... Upon ariving in dalat the bus dropped me at the wrong end of town at about 430am n front of the most expensive place they could find. I quikly threw open my backpack to layer on as many clothes as i could and headed in what i presumed was the direction of the town center. As it turns out i was headed in the right direction but didnt get far until a bike appeared and i gladly accepted the offer of a $1 ride. Unfortunately bveing freezing and half asleep i accidently gave the driver $10 instead (only later would i fully understand why she had given me a hug of thanks!).
Also being a further twat i couldnt locate the door bell and after rapping on the gate a few times resighned myself to sitting on the curb readng and watching the sun come up. At 6 the bemused hostel owner asked why i hadnt rang the bell and invited me in for breakfast. The owners of the Peace hostel and cafe are some of the funniest warmest vietnamese people i have met and i highlky recommend a stay here. I had a lovely room with a small balcony and view of dalat, sat tv and hot water for $5, not to mention the affordable and wonderful food served down stairs... if you dont order quick enough she will pick for you "dont worry i make special for you", if your not a picky eater go with her recommendations she is a wonderful cook!
As it would have it my leg swolen and sore still fomr my motoprbike burn i couldnt partake in the usual dalat outdoor activities of rockclimbing, biking an hiking. So i took the day off to explore the town on foot. The stroll was most pleasant as dalat is set beatufuly amongst the lake and mountains, its an easy walk to Hang Nga Geusthouse and art gallery (or the crazy house) a sort of gaudi vietnamese style creation. In the heart of dalat s the central market, with fresh berries and dried fruit, fish swimming through endless metal bowls and noodle shops at night this market definately has charm along with anything else you could be shopping for!
The next morning i was picked up at the hostel and on my way to nha trang.
