So central america is a small place afterall... After waiting in the dark jungle thunderstorm of El Panchan Palanque at 5:30 (should have been 5 but still on "mexican time") I was finally on my way to see Tikal, supposedly the most impressive of the northern mayan ruins.

The ride there was interesting we had to wait for an hour in a village for half the people in the van to go on a tour, and then get a rickety little boat over the strongest currents i have ever seen, beautiful though scary. When I reached the otherside of the river imagine my surprise to find Alex a canadian from the mayflower was there and had stayed in the cabin next to mine the night before. We all stayed at the mirador together, nice place, clean and on the water.

Flores is a pretty place, and easy to navigate, finding food, internet or laundry is no problem. And there are some really good food places here too. We even managed to go out to a discotheque called disco raices by the water, really cool, dance floor was really packed and really sweaty - it was actually kinda disgusting but definitely worth it!

More importantly tikal was quite beautiful, tucked away in the jungle it was alot quieter than chichen itza. I would recommend going on a morning tour when you can feel almost alone in the jungle its really cool. We had a great tour guide so that helped alot too. Although i have to say, chichen itza might have been infested with tourists but i found it more impressive than tikal in terms of pure grandure and acoustic/astrological design. Having said that tikal should not be missed it has its own quiet elegance that makes it stand out.

After a night out on the town, complete with a visit to a little festival in the town square and followed by the discotheque, i had very little sleep before heading back to belize and the tropical islands there the next morning.
