The weather finally changed today. As we sailed into the tropics, we had our first hot day, filled with bright sunshine, which meant a day of pure fun aboard Norwegian Epic going down the waterslides and swimming.

Got up at noon on this fourth sea day en route from Ponta Delgada, Azores, to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. I almost got up at 10 for the breakfast buffet, but I just didn't feel hungry, so I fell back to sleep for another two hours. I went upstairs to Deck 18 and snuck into Posh Beach Club when someone with keycard access happened to walk in right in front of me as I was heading to the public deck. Posh is a private area of Decks 18 & 19 open only to Haven suite guests as well as other passengers who pay an extra fee. The area features dozens of red padded lounge chairs and a bar. There was only about 15 people in Posh, so I had plenty of open chairs to choose from. An attendant came around to offer me fresh fruit on a skewer.

I exited Posh at 1 p.m. and moved to a similar red-cushioned lounge chair in the public zone on Deck 18 forward. This area is much more crowded – it’s often difficult to find an open lounge chair. Posh isn’t much different from the public area except that it’s much less packed, so there’s no trouble finding a good spot to lounge. I continued reading for about 30 minutes, then headed to the Garden Café for lunch buffet.

After lunch, I changed into my swimsuit and headed up to the pool area on Deck 15. Today is the ninth day of the cruise, but the first day it was hot enough to put on my bathing suit and get wet. I immediately climbed the stairs to the waterslides. Epic has three waterslides – purple, yellow (Epic Plunge), and green. The yellow waterslide was not operating today; I heard different explanations for this from crew members including that it was too windy and that there was a problem with the water flow. I had fun going down the purple and green slides. My friend Craig came up to meet me midafternoon and we had fun taking photos and videos of each other coming down the slides. It was great silly fun.

As the sun started going down, we moved from the waterslides and pools to the hot tubs. I went down to my cabin at 6:40 after sunset to shower, then returned outside to the Spice H20 area on Deck 16 to sort today’s photos and videos. Craig joined me about 7:50 and we ate dinner there – the menu consists of five appetizers: pork noodles, popcorn chicken, beef empanadas, chicken satay, and sweet potato fries. I ate everything except the sweet potato fries. The appetizers were pretty good and it was a nice change of pace from eating in one of the main dining rooms.

Craig and I went to the Headliners comedy club for a 9:00 Second City show, split for an hour, then met back at Headliners for the 11:00 Second City show. Both were like last night’s show – okay. Some funny skits, but also several strange and not-that-funny acts. The night ended at the '70s "Funk-a-licious Disco Dance Party" in Bliss nightclub.

I took a walk outside on the upper decks before returning to my cabin. It’s full moon tonight and the moon was directly overhead – as far up as you’ll ever see it. Returned to my cabin at 1:01 a.m.

It’s now 1:48 a.m. We crossed the Tropic of Cancer and are now at 22º 57.73’ N, 57º 38.30’ W. Our fourth timezone change in a row will occur in 12 minutes when we switch from GMT-3 to GMT-4 – we’ll soon be on Atlantic Standard Time/Eastern Daylight Time, matching the time back home in Washington. One more sea day tomorrow and then we arrive into St. Thomas on Halloween.
