Today, we packed the car, say goodbye to our new friends in New Orleans, and headed out for Austin. We arrived in Austin late, so we decided to get a motel. It was a fairly uneventful day, which we spent most of the time in the car.
In the morning, Rachel and I drove to the farmers market in Austin. After buying some produce, we drove to our new couch surfing location, just outside of Austin. The location is on a farm dedicated to sustainability. We met several cool people; some who lived on the farm and others who were their for the day volunteering. The farm sits on 100 acres. It contains ponds, goats, chickens, some crops, and dogs. It is a young farm, started less than a year ago. Rachel and I set up a tent because there was not enough room in the house. It is nice to be out of the city and to explore what living on a farm might be like.
While in Austin, Rachel and I spent a lot of our time exploring the city, the farm, and hanging out with the farm's residents. We helped out moving structures, planting seeds, and cooking meals. This was a good experience for Rachel and me. It provided us with an idea of what it would be like to live on a farm, which is a little appealing. Tomorrow, Rachel and I will head out to spend a couple of days camping in the Big Bend National Forest!
