Salerno: What a beautiful little hotel we found just south of Salerno. Hotel Olimpico (that's how they spell it) has been all we could ask for. The kids enjoyed the pool a great deal, Keith and I tried our hand at tennis (twice), played ping pong on the out door table, and the girls talked french with children from a french family. We took a wonderful boat trip to Amalphi. Beautiful coastline and interesting town but beach was nothing much to speak of. (Amalphi coast considered the Italian Riviera)
A few classic quotes. Yesterday at breakfast when discussing the Italian Bread, Marusia commented "if my mother made bread like this, she'd throw it away. She'd be too embarrassed to serve it to anyone". Family vote, Greek bread and Turkish bread the best we've had so far.
Met a chap from Fredricton N.B. at our hotel. He does a lot of travelling. He claims that in Northern Italy, red lights compel the drivers to stop, in Rome, red lights are an indication that the driver should stop, but down here, red lights are decorative and really mean nothing to most drivers. (Too true).
Tomorrow we have to get up very early for our flight to Spain.
