The City of Angels - I have had the most incredible day! You've seen some of the pics I've posted already and that's a few of my countless special moments. I'm so glad I'm coming back here in a couple of days coz there's so much more I need to do - including hugging an LAPD officer.

So I took the Grand tour of LA with a tour guide who picked me and others up at our various hotels this morning at 9am. We started off by going to Marina Del Rey and have just got back to the hotel at 5pm. I can't even begin to describe my day and as such, everything was a highlight. Venice Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Farmers Market, China Town, Downtown LA. I've recorded 100's of "Did you know..." Facts and am suffering a bit with information overload. And then when we got into downtown LA my battery eventually died so had to revert to my normal camera which is crap, coz now I have to wait till I get home to download the pics.

What I did witness and captured on camera was a festival in downtown called "Dia De Los Muertos" in Olvera street which is the oldest street in LA. It's a Mexican area and directly translated, it's the festival of the dead. There are little shrines that family members have erected all around this plaza with photos and candles and mementos of family members that have passed. There are Mexican singers and dancers and stalls - It was quite moving to witness this and didn't feel it right to snap away at the shrines as the family members are all seated around.

Another one of those "did you know..." things was that all building and pavements in LA are put together with tiles / bricks / glass / marble etc and these are put together with a polymer epoxy resin which has a spongy texture. It's quite weird to see and feel but this is obviously for elasticity due to earthquakes. There are apparently 300 earthquake activities everyday but the last big one was in 1994 (I think)...

Oh and another interesting piece of information, there are 12million people in LA and 14million registered vehicles. Imagine 14 million vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road? Also, after OJ Simpson's car chase was televised, Bronco sales went through the roof to the extent that Ford were forced to erect a factory in LA just to cope with the backlog of Bronco orders.

Oh my goodness, I can go on and on... Beverly Hills will not allow any presidential motorcades in the area as it creates too much chaos with road closures. It's happened twice - once with Ronald Reagan and once with Obama. Both times very stem letters were set to the White House but clearly Reagan didn't pass the message onto those who followed after him, so the residents were really bummed when Obama motorcaded through. Such useless information but interesting!

I now need to get dropped off at the airport and then somehow find the Right bus that will get me back into Downtown LA to the Greyhound Bus Depot. My bus then leaves at 23:35 for San Francisco. I hope I can sleep on the bus as its a 7 hour journey through the night and I am feeling slightly tired but still as high as a kite. Still no jet lag tho'

More tomorrow!
