Where I stayed
Bertain is from Bayanga and his wife who still lives there will be helping us with the kids and with other domestic chores. She has helped previous researchers who have come to Bayanga with their children and comes highly recommended. I'm happy that we will have some help but at the same time I feel weird about it. I've never been one to be comfortable asking for or receiving help especially when I feel like I should be able to take care of myself. The reality is that I don't have the experience in living here and it really is quite different
So today was Evan's 1st birthday. To celebrate this occasion and to thank Jean Bosco for his help we went out to a restaurant that for Bangui is very nice. Many westerners and wealthy Central Africans frequent it. For desert I really wanted the chocolate mouse that was on the menu but they were all out so we opted for flaming bananas instead. I'm not too sure what Evan thought of all that but he enjoyed the bananas nonetheless.
Tomorrow we leave for Bayanga. Hopefully we will get on the road about 0600 so that we don't arrive too late. We will be staying at the Doli Lodge for a couple of nights while we get the house in order. It may be a while before I can give any more updates. I will continue to write blog entries off line and upload them when I get a chance.
