Friday 1st April Fools Day.
The day started with a 7 hour bus trip from Puno to Cusco.  (Surely this is the last bus trip we have to do!!  Maybe I should have checked my itinery more thoroughly!)  The scenery was absolutely beautiful, flat valley flood plains surrounded by mountains, some of them snow-capped.  A river ran along the valley aswell.  I enjoyed watching the movie "The Fighter", but didnīt enjoy "Salt" and enjoyed 3/4 of the movie "The Way" before we arrived in Cusco.  Elvis left us and we met our new Peruvian guide, Ciro (like "donīt you know that youīre my Ciro" {hero}.)  He took us for our walking tour after we dumped our gear at our hotel and we had a snack.  Later we met our Inca trail guide, Elias at our hotel to discuss how the trip would go and what to expect.  It was so cold, now that we have dropped in altitiude, that Alisha and I stayed in and watched crap TV all night in our room.
Saturday 2nd.
We joined up with the other Gecko group, who we met at the Lake Titicaca Island, and we all went for a tour around Cusco to the Sacred Valley.  We went to a silver jewellry factory & showroom. I bought two silver rings, one with Incan patterns.  Then we went to an alpaca knitwear store where I didn't buy anything.  We we got up close and personal with llamas and alpacas at the next place.  We got to pat them and feed them, which was really cute.  Then we visited their shop where you can purchase products made from them.  Then we went to a community bakery and had some cheesy pastries and wandered around the touristy markets.  The scenery in the Sacred Valley region is gorgeous, but itīs a bit of a worry when you see all the landslips here and there though.
In the evening Alisha, Alan and I had dinner at a place in Cusco with an Aussie flag out front, called Los Perros.  The food was meditteranean and supurb. Then we went back to our rooms to pack our day packs and duffle bags ready for the BIG TREK!!  There has been so much anticipation about going on the Inca Trail like am I fit enough? will my heart cope? will my knees cope? etc etc.  We have all been talking about the Inca Trail since we started 6 weeks ago and now it is about to happen and we are SO EXCITED!!!
