17/08/08: Ahhhh New Zealand at last. Our friend Josh who we met in a Hong Kong camera shop and then again on Victoria Peak kindly picked us up from the airport, brought us back to his house and cracked open some ice cold Tui! Kiwi hospitality at its finest!
Back to reality now for a while and start the job hunt..... 20/08/08: Wellington has really become home for us now. We've been here for 4 months, we're both working away, found a great little apartment right in the city centre and have met a great bunch of people. Wellington's real shining star is its restaurants. It's got possibly the best restaurants of any city we've visited so far and we've yet to be disappointed by the food here.
About an hour from Wellington there's a sanctuary called Owlcatraz where they have an owl house as well as other animals like llamas, donkeys and rabbits and of course Big Snow, the biggest cow in the world! The residents of the owl house are pretty special too. There's Owl Capone, Owl Macpherson, Owlvis Presley, Owlmo, Owlfalfa, Owl Bundy and Owlton John, cute! The countryside surrounding Wellington city is gorgeous and a lot of the Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed within walking distance of the city centre. A ten minute drive takes you out of the city centre and onto stunning coastal or mountain roads. Ivor and Kathryn came to visit us for a few days and we went out in the city for a few to celebrate. We then hiked out to Sinclair head from Owhiro Bay the following day to see the fur seals and capture a beautiful view of the South Island's snow covered mountains.
So far having a ball here....Stephen is working on supervising the knocking of some tunnels for a rail company in the beautiful Manuwatu Gorge a few hours north of Wellington to accommodate larger freight trains. They're pretty much taking out the side of the mountain and he's really enjoying the experience. He bought a mountain bike and there's no better way to wind down after work apparently (hey what's wrong with a beer?) Got a couple of great aerial shots of Wellington one day. Had to take a chopper with work and the pilot kindly flew around the city for me to take some touristy snaps! Off to Ohakune soon to ski down Mount Ruapehu, an active volcano about 5 hours north of Wellington, keep ya posted!

Have ye gone green and taken to nature and become the world ever first backpacking farmers, lol.
The pictures look excellen and a chopper also is this to keep an eye on the ranch lol.
