Ah yes we've landed in Cairns and the weather's glorious. Time to book ourselves in for a few dives on the great barrier reef, yaay. But first we decided to do a tour of the Daintree rainforest and Cape Tribulation.
The day started off sunny as we headed north for the Daintree river cruise to spot some crocs. The cruise was nice and we saw a couple of crocodiles but they were happy enough to stay put in their beds and didn't come out to play. After the cruise we headed for a stroll through the rainforest and then on to beautiful Mossman Gorge for a swim in the crystal clear mountain water (except we didn't swim coz it was too cold and we're wusses, hey the water was 31 degrees in Vanuatu!) Then it was on to Port Douglas for a stroll around and on to Cape Tribulation, and that's when the sky opened up and p*&%ed on us all, drenching us to the bone. Uh oh hope we don't get a cold coz we've to go diving.....
Except we did get colds, the works....tonsilitis and chest infections. Cancelled our dive trip and decided to sit tight in Cairns until we were better, give it a week, it'll be fine...... Nope...a week later more torrential rain had caused flooding in Cairns and the surrounding towns closing off all roads in and out of the city, evacuating nearby towns and villages as the water levels rose and croc infested rivers were bursting their banks and mixing with flood waters, hmmmm not good. Awful for people who lost everything and had their homes destroyed. Didn't really give a crap about diving there anymore. When the rains died down and the roads were opened we decided to leave Cairns and head elsewhere as we'd been there for over 2 weeks. Off we went on our merry little way to.....Mission Beach, ooops, no Mission beach is under water, crap. Off we go to Townsville.......
