Caught our flight back to Perth leaving behind 47 degrees celsius in Exmouth, phew! Perth was still quite hot though at 41 degrees and apparently their hottest summers day in 10 years according to the papers. They were also enduring devastating forest fires in the suburbs which had come all the way from the east near Kalgoorlie leaving a path of destruction and engulfing a convoy of truck drivers tragically killing three, not the kind of news people want to hear.
Perth is a nice city, pretty laid back atmosphere around the place. We heard a guy on the plane saying that W.A. stands for "wait awhile" and he wasn't wrong!! Everything just seems to move a lot slower than Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide but it's still not as laid back as Darwin, we've yet to meet a contender for Darwin!
We hopped on a train to Fremantle and had a stroll around. It was a quiet enough little port town. After that we got off the train to have a look at the infamous Cottesloe Beach. It was about 7pm and the beach and surrounding town were still teeming with people all in good spirits, a real holiday feel to the area. The next day we hired a car and went to Caversham wildlife reserve in Whiteman park followed by a spin around the gorgeous Walyunga National Park, Swan and Avon Valleys. We then headed back to the city and went for a walk on Heirisson Island which is an island in the middle of the swan river which runs through Perth City. Here we stumbled across wild grey kangaroos living happily in Perth City, bizarre! After that it was back to the airport to catch our flight back to Melbourne, man we could sleep for a week......
