Our first stop as a group - the Unfinished Obelisk at the Northern Quarries. Hence, starts the visit of many , many temples, Gods and Goddesses, Pharoah etc. As much as I love ancient history, again my CPU was too jammed up. Age , I think and I envy Clarissa and Chris as they are like sponges and they can very quickly retain the stories that they were told.
The trip to the Northern Quarries was hot and lasted half an hour. A short brief story of the Unfinished Obelisk, photo opportunity and straight back to the bus without a glance at any shops..Next stop , Aswan High Dam at Lake Nasser which we were told a huge source of energy power for Egypt. .
We , then, proceeded to what I think is the loveliest temple - Philae temple on a tiny island called Philae. Built by the Romans, the rich greenery contrast with the lovely golden monuments and seeing it with the sunset at the background was breath taking. Kudos for this tour.
More pictures and we were off to our next stop - Perfume Factory. Rifyat's advice not to touch anything was held very tightly by our group - we declined even the offer of drinks Finally, we were back at the Ramadis and had a lovely dinner and got all ready for our horse carriage trip around Aswan.
Right on the dot , the little chap was there , all eager to literally take us out for a ride. Whilst, we we were riding, Ray then whispered to me that he wouldn;t be surprised after the camel scam, this guy will scam us for RM30 per person rather than RM30 per ride. I looked at him and while I did confirm with the little guy that it was for five of us - it was just too good of a bargain in Egypt for a horse-carriage ride to cost RM30 for all five of us. I looked at Ray and realized that he could be right especially when the little chap kept insisting on going everywhere and even stopped at a souvenir shop while we shopped .
We were back after probably a 30 to 45 min ride and truly we were charged RM30 per person and when I was prepared to pay him just that, he added RM50 as his tip which I reluctantly agreed and to top it all, he then asked for a tip for his horse as well. He was hustling and pushing for the extra tip when out of the blue , the quiet and silent Raymond roared at him - " THAT'S ENOUGH TIPS !"... Silence filled the group and the the twerp and Chris was in awe - Uncle Raymond HAS SPOKEN. The twerp shut up, too and stopped hassling. I am, after all, in a country where women should not be taking the lead . At that moment, I , too am glad that Raymond finally stood up and spoke.
