Wakeup call at 1am! Piled into our big bus for the long trip to Sinai. Another convoy which was a bit more structured than the last one - still hundreds of buses but they seemed to travel together and not racing each other. Quite a few checkpoints along the way where we were checked again. When we stopped for a toilet stop, some of the other buses stopped as well then we all had to get going at the same time again. At our lunch stop, Jackie spotted 2 tanks just sitting in the desert quite close to us! A passport check as we arrived at St Catherine's. Went to a local shop to stock up on munchies for the climb, then checked into the hotel. The only good thing about the hotel was that it had a pool, otherwise it was pretty much a dump. Dinner then early bed.
Wakeup call at 2am. Drove to St Catherine's to start the climb. And after 10-15 mins I was stuffed. Climbing in the dark was pretty hard as well, not sure where I was putting my feet most of the time
Quick visit to St Catherine's monastery then in the bus to drive back to Cairo. Played a guessing game when we hit the outskirts of Cairo as to when we would pull up in front of the hotel. Turned out to be really close, but Bonnie won by a minute or so.

OMG Are they tanks?
. However I just kept plodding along, walking for a while with David and an Indian guy who had got separated from his group. It was a bit frwaky passing the camels as well, every so often you just hear them breathing close next to you. Got to the bottom of the steps just as it was starting to become light. The steps were a killer and I almost didn't think I'd get there, but stopping every 4 or 5 steps I eventually got to the top of Mt Sinai (along with hundreds of others). Mike, Jeff, Garth and I were the only ones who had made it right to the top, so after walking round and checking out the top of the mountain, and taking lots of victory pics, it was time to head down. Hike down was quicker but still a bit tough as my knee really started to hurt. Got down and waited for the rest to get there. Got a great shot of the group, then headed back to the hotel for breakfas, shower and rest.Quick visit to St Catherine's monastery then in the bus to drive back to Cairo.
