Early start to drive to Edfu Temple. Lucky enough to catch Mike's photo in a ray of light - makes him look very angelic! Lazed in the sun and enjoyed our last day of sailing. This time it was daylight when we passed through the lock at Esna and most of our group stood on the front deck (outside our room) watching. Just amazing to be in the lock and then drop about 6 metres before you continue sailing. Sailed again in the afternoon to Luxor arriving around 5:30-6pm. Went for an orientation walk (nice sunset pics), then back for dinner. After dinner Mike, David and I went to a local market where we looked for stuff to take to the orphanage. Finally found some soccer balls, stickers, pencils etc and were hassled a bit by local kids as we walked back with them. Got lost a bit on way back (Mike was navigating) and it felt a bit unsafe but we eventually made it to the boat in one piece.
Early morning start again to leave for trip to Valley of the Kings
Afternoon visit to the orphanage. Loved the time we spent with the kids. And the place was nowhere near as bad as what we had expected. Run by an Irish/Scottish? lady and the kids are well looked after, well fed and clean. They are spoken to in both English and Arabic, and just loved having us play with them. Last dinner on the boat, so it was a bit sad cause we would be saying goodbye to all the guys on the boat.

. Rode there on donkeys - so cool! My donkey was so placid, just plodded along and happy to stay at the back of the pack. So hot in the Valley of the Kings and so crowded even that early. We saw 3 tombs - Ramses IV, Ramses II and Ramses I. Loved the colours and the intricacy of the inside of the tombs, but the heat, crowds and the enormous number of people thronging through each one made it almost impossible to enjoy. Back onto the donkeys again - different one this trip, for the trip back to the boat. My donkey was was more spirited this time, sniffing everything and everyone at the start, then galloping off by himself (with me hanging on tight) whenever he felt like it.Afternoon visit to the orphanage.
