Wow, this was a cold, snowy, and windy day.
You know you are not in Florida when you enter a restroom in the Midwest. The worst restroom out here is twice as clean as the cleanest restroom in Florida. It is such a blessing to not only find hot water and soap but an abundant supply of paper towels. I stopped to see the Abe Lincoln statute, but it was so cold and windy that I was the only one there.
Interstate Overpass in Kearney, Nebraska
I stopped at the famous overpass in Kearney, but it did not open till 10 am and I was not going to wait an hour. But, I did get a good photo of it and the buffalo out front.
Buffalo in Kearney
The wind gusts were between 40 and 60 mph causing the snow in the farm and ranch fields to blow across the Interstate thus creating slippery conditions. I love the wide open farm and range land of the West. The light traffic makes for a very easy drive. You can just lean back, enjoy the scenery and listen to the radio or watch (listen) to a DVD and time flys by. I enjoyed one of my all time favorites today, "Honeymoon in Vegas." Everyone should drive across the country. You get a real appreciation size and resources of this enormous country. When you see it all first hand you realize we could feed the world ten times over if we wanted too. You know you are not in Florida when you enter a restroom in the Midwest. Abe Lincoln
You might ask, why is Abe Lincoln standing over I-80. The answer is that I-80 tracks most of the route of the much older US Route 30. Route 30 is better known as the Lincoln Highway and is the first road to cross the entire U.S. Thus, you will find many Linclon Highway references as you follow this road.
Snow and Wind at Rest Stop
I took a photo at a rest stop just to show the snow and wind - note the flags. When I arrived in Rock Springs I drove out to the Wild Horse Rescue ranch and looked at the horses. I was going to adopt one for Carol, but it was too late and the office was closed.
Wild Horse in Rock Springs
I have some better photos of the horses, but will not be able to load them till I get home.
