We are leaving here tomorrow to head to Buenas Aires. Life is very easy on a beach but we have had enough of relaxing now and need to move on. Looking forward to a 24 hour bus tomorrow .. NOT!
Lenny here. CH and I have been taking it easy on the beach in Barra de Lagoa in Florianopolis for the last few days. Life is tough here. We have been doing very little but relaxing and yesterday decided that we spent enough time looking at the surfers and it was time to become one. So we booked our lessons with one of the many Surf Schools on the beach. There were four of us in the group, all beginners. We spent the first half hour trying to get into our wet suits and next half hour practicing how to stand up on the sand! That went well. I think I got it. Then it was time to do it for real on an actual wave. So we all got to walk across the beach holding our surf boards. I was looking good! The instructor gave us a few last minute reminders and then we were to be chosen one by one to hit the waves. He chose me to go first! Yes, he must have seen my skill on the sand and wanted me to show how it was done to the other beginners... We walked into the sea and I was feeling confident. Just as I got to lie on the surfboard waiting to get going I turned my head to catch the instructor blessing himself and kissing the cross around his neck. What!! Surfing isnīt dangerous, is it? Anyway, Catherine and I were battered around by the waves for over 2 hours but it was fantastic. We both managed to stand up more than once and I think Catherine stood up for easily 10 seconds at one wave. We both had a ball and were so chuffed we tried it. Next time you see us we will have all the lingo.. dude!
