Weather has been weird. Believe it or not, it is supposed to be sunny and warm but it rains a whole lot and there is still quite a lot of snow on the beautiful mountains that should be completely green by now. Funny thing is that nobody uses an umbrella. There is not really a fashion culture around here, but if there is one thing that is considered to be out of fashion, than it's for sure umbrellas. And, for sure we don't want to be out of fashion, so we adjust ourselves to the Alaskan way of life and get nice and wet. No matter how much rain or wind there is, we are brave and go out. I never thought I wouldn't even mind, we get all soaked, but hey, we just take it
Good thing is that we do see the sun once in a while. A week ago we had one of the most beautiful days. I had a short top on and went to find a bench to sit on and read my book. I walked and walked and didn't find any single bench. Had to go all the way downtown to sit next to all these old cruiseship tourists, juhu! I went on to look for some trails and found the way to a beautiful nice creek that turned out to be Jason's and my favourite spot to skip stones. Most hilarious is that I got a sunburn after 2 hours. Can you believe that? Me, a southern girl getting a sunburn in Alaska? I surely never thought that would happen, besides of course on top of the mountain on your skies.
We are still waiting for the perfect day to go to the glacier, but we just go ahead and look for stuff to do around. One day we just went over to the docks and Jason explained me all about the boats and the fishing. It was a nice fishy atmosphere and the greatest was that I actually found gold! This area's history reaches way back in the gold rush when settlers came and looked for gold. That's where the city has its name from, Joe Juneau who discovered gold together with Richard Harris. There is no business anymore and the mines are also not active, but there is still gold around, of course not like in the past. It's actually a rock that has tiny pieces of gold on it. It would need to be seperated from the rock and be put through that whole process but I guess I won't learn that. Who cares, I found gold!!
Another day we went to the Alaskan Brewery. It was great fun. Beer tasting is completely for free and you can try all kind of great beer

Besides going and discovering, we also get up really late. Many things have changed around here. The hotel was sold about 10 days ago. The new owner came in, just observed, never said a word and started to change everything. He didn't want to run any risks in me working without a permit so my last day in the restaurant was a week ago. Jason continued to work for another three days until he went to work and was told by other employees that he shouldn't be coming in anymore
