We left at around 9:30 today and hit the road straight after breakfast. We did a short detour to see the Serpent Mound and some related stuff. Signs were saying that it has something to do with an ancient culture from around 800 BC. In fact the signs and some small hills are everything what can be seen there. Total waste of time especially taking for consideration the fact that it is much colder today than it was yesterday. Talking about the weather - we heard in the morning news some warnings of floods in Illinois/Missouri in the area of St. Louis city. They were saying that there were some heavy rains in recent day in the southern parts of the state, while some snow is melting in the north. We saw some effects on this - level of water in the Ohio river and some others is pretty high, some cornfields were totally flooded as well. We decided to ignore the warning and drive in direction of St. Louis. At least for now.
We stopped in Cincinnati, OH for a tea
After this lovely chat with a couple from Indiana we headed south on I-65 towards and through Louisville and Elizabethtown to Fort Knox (both in Kentucky)
After this unusual experience we went back north towards Indiana. We crossed first time zone in the United States and entered to Evansville where we stayed for the night in Best Western motel.

Northern Ireland's capital? :-)
. It was freezing so we missed our opportunity to explore the city. City was almost empty anyway possibly because of a Easter weekend. We drove west from Cincinnati and decided to do unplanned detour to Kentucky. Prior to that we did a short stop next to the McDonald's on the crossing of US-50 and I-65. We parked next to the couple who had a sticker on their window: "Our daughter is in the army". We talked to them for a while and we learned that she is stationed in North Carolina and there is a possibility that she will be deployed to Iraq. Her father to whom we spoke to told us that he has just retired from the army after 25 years of service. He was deployed in many places across Europe, Asia and America. He said that now it is the time to enjoy life. He wore a t-shirt saying: "Operation Iraqi Freedom", which gave us an opportunity to ask him about what we have already saw many times along the way. We are talking about houses with stars painted on them or attached to the roofs accompanied by American flags in the gardens. He explained that this means that particular household has a son or daughter serving in Iraq. Very patriotic, isn't it? Later on we talked about our route and the military man wished us to enjoy and stay safe. After this lovely chat with a couple from Indiana we headed south on I-65 towards and through Louisville and Elizabethtown to Fort Knox (both in Kentucky)
Marek is driving through Ohio
. We wanted to see how the famous place with American reserves of gold looks like. Fort Knox is actually a town about 15 miles from Elizabethtown. Just outside the town is a small vault (with possibly huge basements!) surrounded by military area. Accidentally we drove into the military restricted zone, but after a nice and short conversation we were told how to leave. We did not manage to take any pictures, but we have some video footage. We are going to post it with this note after we will be back to Ireland. We left Fort Knox area immediately and stopped for a dinner. Where else can you stop for a dinner in Kentucky if not in KFC? Everybody ordered something different and all of us were really disappointed. Aneta's, Michael's and Piotr's chicken tasted like fish and mine like a beef. Our next visit in KFC will be in Ireland. After this unusual experience we went back north towards Indiana. We crossed first time zone in the United States and entered to Evansville where we stayed for the night in Best Western motel.

Comments
KFC rocks! Or does it...
I was really disappointed to hear that KFC in Kentucky was not the best quality one, as I believe we all would expect otherwise. However, I was very glad to read your first post since you departed Marek! I wish you all the safe trip and a better weather!
All the very best,
Kamil
