Ok, so this was the last stop before we went back home to London. Brugge is the one of the most visited cities in Europe, by Europeans.
http://www.brugge.be/internet/en/index.htm Brugge was the big trading city in the area about 800 years ago. When the Emperor of the time was imprisoned there - but then later was released, he came back and gave all the trading rights to Antwerp, taking them away from Brugge. So the economy in Brugge stood still for years - and the city currently looks very close to how it did in the Middle Ages. It is stuck in time.... We didn't have near enougb time here...Belgium is famous for its beer - there are over 400 different beers they brew and hundreds of different glasses they use to drink them out of. There are famous lace makers, who make tablecloths, napkins, doilies (ugh - but...they are quite intricate). They make delicious waffles and pancakes and cover them with toppings...YUM. There are museums and restaurants...and such incredibly beautiful architecture and gardens. It might be the most romantic place I've ever seen. Not the place for a week of partying...unless drinking really good beer in an amazing environment is enough of a party...BUT...if you're looking for a 5 day retreat with your lover...then this place during spring, summer or fall - would be an incredibly romantic getaway. BTW, for all of my gay and lesbian pals...Same Sex marriage AND scond parent adoption is legal in this country.
look at the pictures...and don't forget about this small city in a small country More thumbnails ...
