Factoid - Tim 'the toolman' Taylor filmed Galaxy Quest here, and Terrence Malick filmed scenes from Tree of Life here as well, for obvious reasons.
I was told about this Utah state park by a neighbor camper the previous night, and I am thankful to that man...Caleb was his name. Thousand of really illogical and bizarre mushroom shaped rock formations, or hoodoos, or goblins, cover the otherwise empty and alien looking valley. I don't understand how or why these formations exist, it doesn't and didn't seem real - a massive practical joke by the state of Utah and some paid-off geologist (uhh, just like global warming and evolution, gittgiiitttgitt). The sandstone cliff walls also have very otherworldly formations that are just as cool looking, though more similar to Capitol Reef and Bryce. What makes it even more amazing is that they let you hike out to and through the valley and formations, with no real restrictions. I don't know why this isn't more well know - got to get it on Atlas Obscura.
