I have to confess it is a little bit strange to be leaving Ericsson after nearly 9 years ... despite the frustrations of the last year or two there are (quite remarkably) a few doubts ... but I've been to see my new employer Fotonation in Galway this week and met a good few more of the people who work there ... The more I see the happier I am that this could be the right decision for me ... I'm under no illusions about it ... We face some challenges next year and it won't be easy, it will be hard work ... but I'm really looking forward to it ... when I get back from my adventure in Southern Africa I'll be racking up more air miles as I head off to Las Vegas, San Francisco, Paris (for rugby) and Barcelona over a 3 week period ...

You'd think the fear of unknown in the new job would be foremost in my mind ... since my lifestyle is about the undergo some radical change ... but I'm quietly confident it is the right thing for me and as a challenge I will relish it ...

It is strange but it is this trip to Africa which is causing most of my current stress ...

I have a lot of doubt about it ... but I'm an experienced enough traveler to know that this is normal ... it has happened on virtually every long trip I've done ... I have to say in this case I feel the physical challenge may be a problem ... since I am not in the shape I'd like to be for this trip ... but the weeks leading up to the departure on a long trip are always a roller coaster of childish excitement and self doubt ... I expect the day of my flight it will involve the usual fire in the belly as the excitement of the forthcoming adventure finally sinks in and grabs hold of me ... and I finally get on the the road ...

But for now ... tomorrow is a big day for me ... I'll be back to write about it before setting off to Africa ...
