Day 43: Morning break with Banana stuffed croissant & strong coffee in shiny white-tiled air-con bakery. Staff in stripy shirts & caps & plump moustachioed manager gaze over the counter. Bollywood drama screeches from TV in corner, warbling strings & unsettlingly poor overdubs grate through the speakers to bounce off the tiles. Feuding families in caste war & fuzzy prancing in the forest. To the government musuem, 7 buildings, the Pantheon complex. Blue whale skeleton looms overhead in the main hall. Dusty array of drab looking stuffed birds & animals in zoology section; crooked zombie kingisher with scuffed feathers & waxy hornbill ready to topple solemnly off plastic perch onto synthetic jungle floor. Snarling black panther gives me the creeps. Ostrich looks like Sinead O'Connor (when she's 80), but nothing compares to the Awesome Chola temple art sculptures in archeology section. Ganesh wins everytime. In the bronze gallery, Paravati, & Siva dances 'The Nataraja' (click on Siva for some incredibly forward scientific & religious thinking from the Sages. I was amazed, you will be too.) 4 hours attempts to buy train ticket to KanyaKumari (S. tip of India). Wild traffic chaos, blinding dust at the junction, stumble over dirt piles bordering the Central station in search for reservation office. As 1 month flip-flop thong wounds dig deep, I feel distinctly British. 3 long queues (they do exist in India, but you can skip if you are a plump Indian, have big arms, a big voice & lots of paper to flap insistently). Locate magic 'foreigner only' counter tucked away in mosquito buzzing corner. Ticket goal. Back at the hotel, refusal to smoke on roof due to bust water pipe
